Hi everyone, I would like to buy a used piano to start playing again (I used to play as a child and after more than 35 years the desire to play has returned to me). I would be looking to spend little by buying a used one, even a very old one. In your opinion, is buying it from a shop specialized in pianos a guarantee against being ripped off (meaning that even if the piano is old, it is well-maintained and will work for a long time), or can they sell me a half-rip-off just like an unknown private seller? I don't know much about it and wouldn't know how to evaluate the quality of the piano other than saying whether the sound is pleasant to me or not. They have offered me a Rosler, but I cannot find any opinions on this old brand. Thanks for the help.
I wouldn't lean towards Rosler. A tall Yamaha upright can be good, for example, a 131. Check if the action is heavily worn (this means it has been worked a lot, perhaps as a rental). Watch my video tutorial on buying a new or used piano. A piano cannot be strictly considered new... just because it is in a shop....
Brands to consider:
Oriental: Yamaha, Kawai
Western: Schimmel ("the prince"), but only uprights. Ibach, ...then without spending limits Bluthner, Bosendorfer, Bechstein. We are always talking about uprights.
Grand pianos: the Yamaha C3 is very good and is a commercial standard. In any case, for grand pianos from 180 cm upwards.
For a small grand piano, a good upright is preferable. Better an excellent Spumante than a bad Champagne!!!!
Naturally, Steinway is the top in both uprights and grands
