E-books will probably be cheaper. At least, the VAT will be lower and the publisher will be able to offer lower prices without killing their profits. The reduction of VAT, which will take effect with the new Stability Law, provides that even for digital books in Italy, the VAT will be 4%, the same as on paper editions. The European Union does not approve: digital books are different from paper ones, so the different taxation is justified. Not everyone agrees on this topic.
