Hello, I am Francesco and I am a complete stranger to the world of piano mechanics. A few weeks ago I was given a T.M. Vincent London upright piano (of which I cannot find the production date despite having the serial number) and consequently I am looking into it a bit. It has been stationary for more than 10 years and I am discovering all the wear and tear of time; besides being out of tune, I notice serious problems with dynamics(?), keys that don't slide smoothly, heavy, and above all from what I have seen, the hammer does not reach the string if a light touch is made, it bounces, it also seems very far from the strings in the resting position (note the grooves made in the green felt in the photo). In general, between felts, worn parts, and lots of dust, there is a lot of friction, but not having sound on almost all keys unless pressed hard seems to me to be something more problematic. Then another thing I noticed is that the escapement lever, when returning, rests on a step that has formed over time on the leather, therefore not returning to its initial position; I don't know if this is normal and if it affects the problem described above. I repeat, I am just starting to study a bit only for a few weeks, a technician will probably need to be called but I wanted to start understanding.
