Hello everyone, the fateful moment has also arrived for me to move from an upright piano to a grand piano. The reasons are many and perhaps, for a pianist, even predictable. I own a Yamaha U3 upright which, at the time of purchase, was recommended to me as one of the best upright pianos, but which I now no longer feel is suitable for my technical study needs. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, I have oriented myself towards a 1/4 grand piano. I have traveled quite a bit through dealers and shops looking for a piano that would suit not only my taste but also my budget! Wandering here and there, I found and tried a W. Hoffmann piano, probably from the late '60s, serial number 80654, 165 cm, cabinet in good condition, synthetic material keyboard, two pedals, Renner action, great price! I must say that I was truly impressed not only by the very round and warm sound (the classic European sound that I seek and love very much) but also by the smoothness of the action, fluid and light. I am only perplexed by the lack of the now widely diffused sostenuto pedal. I searched online for some news regarding this company but only found that at a certain point it was acquired by Bechstein. However, I don't think this instrument I tried, given its age, falls within the merger with Bechstein. Does anyone have more information regarding these pianos? Has anyone ever tried the grands of this brand?
Hoffmann is considered a sub-brand of Bechstein. another sub-brand is Zimmermann .
Bechstein itself is divided into two different lines: the Bechsteins and the C. Bechstein. The C. Bechstein are the best, built entirely in Germany. for grand pianos the costs range from 50,000 euros (167 cm) to 140,000 (282)... the Bechsteins, on the other hand, are cheaper and the cost of grands ranges from 27,000 euros (160) to 54,000 (228).
they are beautiful pianos. I tried them recently, both the uprights and the grands. In Berlin there is a large showroom where you can try them for as long as you want, also open on Sundays. of course the costs are very high....

Anyway, I don't think this piano I tried belongs to the Bechstein Group, I believe instead that it belongs specifically to W. Hoffmann, the original company.
eh sì purtroppo i costi sono al di fuori dei budget delle persone normali. però ho trovato che ci sono parecchi pianoforti bechstein anche a coda usati in vari siti internet. magari potresti navigarci un po'.....chissà che non trovi qualcosa di buono alla tua portata.
