Is it just me, or can I not tell if this article is serious or not?
Quotations (learned or ironic) in jazz have existed since the days of Armstrong and Morton; jazz-style tributes to artists of other genres can be found in Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, McCoy Tyner, Don Sebesky, Gunther Schuller, and a thousand others; "child prodigies" were once called Pat Metheny, Chick Corea.

From the presentation of Nisenson's book, the problem would seem to be something else entirely...

Am I the only one who can't tell if this article is serious or not?
First of all, I apologize for the late reply. My daughter Teresa was born almost a year ago and my time has been greatly reduced. As a result, I haven't read the forum for some time; I had completely missed this comment.
Answering your question: my article is 49% serious. This doesn't mean that I don't believe what I wrote, but obviously everything is relative and extreme generalizations are always wrong.
The article is 51% joking because "by joking one can say anything, even the truth" (S. Freud)

I haven't read the book yet, but I definitely will. For now, I have added it to my "wish list" on the Kindle store. There are already three or four books waiting; first, I want to read some things I already have. Having 100 books waiting to be read discourages me, so I take them a little at a time...
