Good morning everyone, after a long absence I am returning with a new piece that is still a work in progress. I have developed the central theme and what should be the transition zone between the intro and the theme. Being still WIP, it obviously doesn't sound fluid; the transitions are very fast, don't take it as a final product.
What I am asking you is whether this time I have composed a piece that can have meaning, a logical sense, and is listenable from beginning to end. I haven't forgotten your extremely precious advice given months ago (I remember one in particular "your composition is harmonically infantile" or something like that; a violent blow, but a necessary blow).
If you tell me the piece is valid, I will be very happy to continue it and I would focus mainly on 2 points: the intro (that piano solo doesn't convince me) and the general climax, whether it is right or needs to be changed (so warm-up from 0:40, pause at 1:04 and the explosion at 1:19).
I don't mind it, but in my opinion the drums somewhat destabilize the beautiful introductory atmosphere; perhaps I wouldn't use them, characterizing them like a pop song accompaniment, because in my opinion it is too incessant and contrasts too much with the excellent build-up to the final climax...in an ending that I would make less abrupt, it seems truncated...let the sound fade for a few seconds...a sort of "reverb"...try to see if you like it. An echo wouldn't hurt either, anyway, it's up to you.
Anyway, it seems like a good job to me, what (electronic) gear are you using?
Do you mean the drums that come in at 1:36 when you say Destroyer, or everything from the beginning? The end is crushed because the piece isn't finished yet, so everything needs to be adjusted and extended.
I use Cubase 5 and the orchestra is the Vienna Symphonic Library. The drums, however, are a mix of both VSL and the default Cubase Groove Agent. Furthermore, I suffer from tinnitus and mix on headphones, so I will never be able to excel in sound quality and spatiality.
Simone, thank you, but I had it set to private on Soundcloud. Since it isn't finished as a piece yet, I wanted to avoid making it public (not that I have one) it's just that I can't find the option to get the right link.
You really don't like this drum kit, do you? I tried removing it entirely... I tried with some simpler rhythms and less pop instruments but nothing... it sounds too empty, it's missing something... in my opinion, with such a driving theme, there must be [drums]... but I hope we are just talking about tastes and not objective matters... it's certain that I don't want to push too far towards those modern compositions that YouTube is full of, all those "epic/electronic" tracks.
Anyway Abate, you are right, but this section and the public SoundCloud profile are two different things. That is, let's say, a "showcase," for listening and nothing else. Here, instead, there are prepared and expert people who dedicate time to telling you what is right and what is wrong...
You must generate an embed code via SoundCloud's share option. I included this link in your first post. As you can see, there is no possibility to listen to it privately via embed on a site other than SoundCloud, but anyone interested can always click the "Listen on Soundcloud.com" link.
