At the beginning of the 21st century, Harry Halbreich finally became interested in the porous interstices existing between so-called 'learned' music and so-called 'vulgar' expressions. He also dealt with the effects of the new wave of sonic saturation embodied by the compositions of François Sahran, Raphael Cendo, Franck Bedrossian, Yann Robin, Cédric Dambrain … which he defined as «brutalist»(18) (undoubtedly in reference to noise music compositions linked in certain aspects to those of Helmut Lachenmann, Michael Levinas or Fausto Romitelli). At the center of this furiously and curiously avant-garde fringe, distinguishing the difference between 'felt' music and 'spontaneous' gesture, poised between 'noisiness' and the 'musical', valuing for example the notion of sonic 'violence' more than the concept of 'brutality' due to decibels, he had the ability to nonetheless solicit a convincing criterion of appreciation and judgment that he always knew how to make relatable for each of us.
In the meantime, I am pleased that the 21st century is already being studied worthily. This division has piqued my curiosity.
