I have a Yamaha C1 acoustic grand piano from 1997, which I used throughout my conservatory studies; I am thinking of selling it and getting a Clavinova digital piano, either the CLP-695 model or the newly released CLP-795.
Reasons: Living in an apartment building, the possibility of playing with headphones late at night appeals to me, and I have grown a bit tired of the sound of the C1 after so many years.
Concerns: keyboard response, the fullness of the sound reproduced by its own amplification, particularly in the bass.
Clavinova reviews are good, and the psychology of playing a non-acoustic instrument is "softened" by a piece of furniture that, in fact, presents itself entirely as a baby grand; however, this step is not without its concerns....
I apologize, I am only seeing this post now. Anyway, you will have already decided. Both choices can be right, even if the C1 is a bit limited. However, it is a real mechanic. Digital is good and can be favorable for studying with headphones....perhaps while waiting for a more demanding coda. ...Who knows what you have already decided?
In reality, I haven't decided yet, also considering the contingency and the difficulty of finding instruments to try around... instead, I have shifted my attention to two hybrid instruments: the Kawai NV10 and the Yamaha N1X, a middle ground that gives me fewer worries in the transition from the C1 to digital, real grand piano action, the possibility of playing with headphones, and zero problems with hammers and strings, the parts most subject to maintenance and wear!
As soon as I have completed the operation I will let you know... at the moment it is impossible to find an instrument even just to try, Yamaha is not delivering products due to a lack of parts in stock from the importer! the moment is not favorable, we will have to wait.....
