Good evening to the whole forum, finally yesterday I formalized the purchase of a used grand piano, a Yamaha C3 that is about 40 years old. The strings are not the best, but perhaps with a light "scrubbing" using 0000 steel wool something can be recovered. The hammers are not deeply grooved, on the contrary... but they are yellowed; what is this due to? To "time"? And does it perhaps mean that they have hardened?

What can or should be done in these cases?

Thank you

p.s as soon as I can I will take some photos
