Your First Encounter With Jazz

I am a bit undecided between two pieces that my father used to make me listen to when I was about 11 years old ...

one is "Blues in the Night" recorded by Jimmy Lunceford in 1941,

the other is "Requiem" by Lennie Tristano from 1955 (at 11 years old! something unheard of...)

on the back of the 45 rpm (...) there was "East 32nd" and that's where the trouble started...

Thanks! Further confirmation that some listening, even if done as a child, is very formative.

Among the three I am very undecided about the second and third... but the Requiem is the Requiem 😉 I would put the first one last according to my preference index.

I absolutely agree, but when I was little it put me in a very good mood... and even now... 🙂

The Requiem is beautiful, for me the first time was with Ella Fitzgerald, the duets with L. Armstrong and Joe Pass... as for links, I'm not very good at finding them... if someone were better 😉

I started with the album "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis purely by chance. I don't come from a family of musicians and my listening as an infant was very light ... hihi

But I have always been curious, and when they told me about Jazz, I went to the first "store" (let's say a little shop) and I trusted the clerk who put the masterpiece in my hands 😉

Leaving aside the 30s big bands, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald and a few others that "played" around the house and I listened to distractedly, my obsession started from a concert in Pescara which was followed by the purchase of this record and then many others:
