I liked it very much. I remember perceiving it as a bit too repetitive after listening to it for a while, but it wasn't bad at all. It brought back the "flavor" of those places.

Nepal has been (for a decade now) waiting to be proposed with a vocal part, even though it is a piece not originally born to be sung.

Yes, it was and is repetitive, one of the few pieces (among those from (2002/2003)) based on a single succession repeated infinitely.

Lately I have been making others of this type; I am "simplifying" myself.

Oracle, the piece in question I prepared for a contest that required the use of at least one sample downloaded from the SoundHunters website, which, along with Jarre, promoted the competition.

I did not limit myself to using only one sample, but to making the piece using only samples, without any ready-made sound.

It was necessary to give the idea of a continuation of an album released in 1984, created using only samples.

The initial sound is a constant Uh for almost the entire piece; the sequences (including the one with the "thinnest" sound perceptually) are obtained with the sound of a whistle, and the bass from an acoustic piano sample.

There are also people who used only one sample and all other sounds/sequences derive from synthesizer presets, which is much easier because they sound better and more pompous.

The jury (after a selection of 30 pieces out of about 130, not even that many if you consider the contest lasted almost 6 months), it seems that in this final phase it is presided over solely by Jarre himself; he should (according to the regulations) choose 6 winning tracks according to three criteria:

number of samples used

originality

audio quality

For the first criterion, I give myself 100%

For the second, 60/70% (I could have done better, but the piece also has to be distributed and cannot be too "strange," so I chose linearity; for me, having written it, the minutes pass quickly and this is an index that in a certain sense indicates flow and functionality, though obviously it cannot please everyone)

For the third, I would say 50%, I am not skilled at processing sound.

Anyway, I often happen to be told that they imagined a "different development" in a piece, starting from the assumption that it is not instrumental music; for me, this is a positive aspect, it means it takes you by surprise even while being linear.

But if that's not the case and what you mean is something else, tell me; obviously, I am interested in knowing it.

Attention, by samples I mean single sounds, not loops.

Regarding quality, if you had sent me the stems since it was for a competition, I would have mixed them as required, or you could have come to my place and we could have done it together. We even could have had a pizza on the occasion!

Now they are promoting another contest, it's a remix (I also participated in one a while ago, but I had just over a day to prepare everything), I downloaded the stems but, even though I have until January 1st to submit the track, I haven't laid a finger on anything yet, mainly because I am preparing other pieces.

Let's just say that even if I have only listened to the original once, it's as if I am assimilating it so as to then begin conceiving the changes and additions to overhaul it as I please.

Hi, I am very new to the forum; I must say I'm taking quite a risk, there is undoubtedly a lot of research into sound textures here, and also a cohesive programming. I like the sound, and the mix, which couldn't have been easy here, spins well... beautiful!

Hi, I left this piece just as it "comes out" of the program; I wasn't inclined to mix or try mixing the tracks (also due to a setup not suitable for this purpose).

I only used single samples but I could have done more, it's just that considering potential distribution, I preferred to keep it quite essential.
