"...Better a sad tenant than a player of piano or violin". This is what an elderly neighbor of mine told me when she met me in the elevator. At that time, I was about to graduate in piano and I was studying quite a lot. Undoubtedly, a pianist should live in the countryside, but no one should prevent us from playing, perhaps during hours far from those of rest and perhaps not for many hours in a row. But then? How will I manage to study nine hours a day? Sviatoslav Richter, in a documentary filmed about him in his final years, answers the question: "Is it true that you used to study 10 hours a day?" Answer: "Niet", No! !I always studied no more than three hours!!!!" - And how did you study a piece? - "Nothing.......I would learn one page and then move on to the next".....Meditate, people....meditate.
Greetings from Pianoexpert
P.S. All of this could open a discussion on piano technique....what do you say? (But obviously in the appropriate section.)
