On the website "The Composer's Site" (http://www.composerssite.com/) there are many opportunities. Unfortunately, some are reserved only for residents of the United States (today I came across one open only to women residing in North American countries), but in many cases they are international competitions. Since, for obvious reasons, I must only look at those for which there is no age limit, I point out to you: Brazosport Symphonic Orchestra Composition Contest 2014 (composition for orchestra of 9-11 minutes performable by a non-advanced level orchestra), New Music for Easter Time (piece for choir suitable for Easter, but strangely the deadline is in June...), Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award (piece of max 20 minutes for 1-15 performers), Sofia 2014 International Composition Competition (piece of 10-15 minutes for string orchestra), Villiers Quartet New Works Competition (string quartet, max 20 minutes). Participation fees are quite variable: some are free, others only 10-20 dollars, up to 100 euros.

In particular, two features were highly appreciated that will also characterize the 2014 edition: the live performance of all submitted compositions and the establishment of a special prize awarded by a popular jury. Organized by the Associazione Edgard Varèse of Casamassima and the Associazione HaMaDeuS of Bari, the Competition will take place this year on December 11, 12, and 13, 2014, in Casamassima (Bari). 'Gabriella Gentili Mian' International Composition Competition
The Fondazione Teatro di Pisa announces the first edition of the “Gabriella Gentili Mian” International Composition Competition, reserved for an original, unperformed chamber work with a duration of no less than seventy minutes and no more than one hundred and twenty minutes. Members of the Jury, which will be chaired by a well-known personality, will be Daniele De Plano (Head of the Artistic Project of the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago), Marcello Lippi (Artistic Director of musical activities at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa), Alberto Paloscia (Artistic Director of the Goldoni Theatre in Livorno), and Aldo Tarabella (Artistic Director of the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca). The Competition is dedicated to the memory of Gabriella Gentili Mian who, having passed away on June 7, 2011, was one of Italy's most important entrepreneurs, one of the few women to become president of a football team, and a figure of remarkable cultural and human standing among the prominent figures of the city of Pisa. Of notable intellectual curiosity and great human stature, Gabriella Gentili Mian also always distinguished herself through many donations, intentionally anonymous, to both individuals and associations, primarily in two areas: animal welfare and support for music—the latter being an area where she was always a careful Pygmalion and supporter of young talents from their early stages, as was the case with the beloved Maestro Massimo de Bernart.
