Hello. I have finally decided to change the hammer rail (I have a warranty on the action, let's see if I can make use of it, though I certainly cannot choose the technician). Since the technician said that he usually installs a specific Abel hammer rail with green felt underlay, I don't trust him because I want a hammer rail identical to the one I currently have, or at least "compatible". My piano is a 1973 Yamaha C3. The hammer rail is an Abel and the contract mentions "action overhauled, guaranteed for 5 years". In fact, it is different from any other C3 I have tried; it is very comfortable, almost similar to a Kawai under the fingers. So, I have no idea if the technician who overhauled it chose a specific hammer rail and adjustments to make it so. The hammer rail currently installed is an Abel with golden felt underlay, indicating the writing which should be "568 - 10.5" (I am attaching a photo); the serial number is B 1504493. The only hammer rail I found for a Yamaha C3 with golden felt underlay is this one: http://abel-pianoparts.de/index.php?index=1&lng=en&menuid=48&ordner=shop.artikel-19-201. Could that missing 0.5 in width be the reason for my keyboard feeling light? Thank you.
The tuner told me that that hammer rail is out of production. However, I also know that Abel is able to reproduce an identical one by sending some of my hammers.
