Good morning, I wanted to pose a few questions to Maestro Ferrarelli.
As I have already spoken about in the past, perhaps you remember, I have had various problems with this piano, concerning above all the sound; despite voicing being performed on several occasions, it has not ceased to return after a short time every single time (within 3-4 weeks)—all kinds of metallic sounds, which are truly annoying because they are very divergent from each other compared to the normal sound. Nothing was proposed to me by him, having sold me the instrument, that it was fine in that state according to his word.
I then decided to call a new technician, who proposed changing the hammer rail, along with hammer heads and shanks. Furthermore, a complete replacement of the damper felts and their regulation.
He called Abel: if he sends the hammers there to be re-felted and pre-tuned, the whole thing, labor included, amounts to an estimate of 2500 euros; is this an honest price?
However, I asked him to inquire about the price of a re-felted/pre-tuned Renner; he said he needs to make 2-3 phone calls and will let me know. The one being replaced was from this manufacturer and he says it had never been changed, it is the original. I am truly conflicted, which hammer rail should I install?
He strongly recommended an Abel to me, even saying that he had re-felted one for a Steinway, and that in his opinion, having a very warm sound, it is wonderful, while the Renner is more bright/brilliant.
The price of these works and materials still excludes the re-felting of the keybed holes, which I requested since there is a lot of lateral movement.
Before estimating all this, he came to regulate the instrument to observe certain things, and now I have the impression that there is too much percussion, that the sound arrives much sooner and the dynamics are diminished; he says the problem is that he pulled the springs a bit too much and the piano responds too much. I like a more mellow/thick sound, as it was before. He says he regulated it like a Steinway. But will a Schimmel have different parameters or am I wrong? Is it not an error to regulate an instrument according to another brand? There are other weights, other measurements... or am I wrong? I feel the strike too much now and I have more difficulty calibrating the dynamics.
I await opinions, thank you very much in advance..
