Yes, regarding ornaments, one could truly spend months and years in discussion. In my opinion, however, today we are too clung to theory and too little to art. Art has no rules (understood as fixed and mathematical rules, i.e., exact) but it has... conventions.
In the end, there are things that cannot be done but... if you do them with art they can become a rule, or at least be recognized as valid and accepted. This is how taste progresses, as does style and the creation of new art.
Art should be everything but not a problem... instead sometimes.....it becomes one.
