Hello everyone,
I am a young pianist working towards my fateful piano diploma alongside university studies. First of all, I would like to congratulate you on this interesting website dedicated to pianists; I find it quite useful and efficient. Having access to a forum like this, I would like to ask if possible for some suggestions regarding the purchase of a digital piano.
Currently, I own a Kawai RX1 1/4 grand piano and an old, now obsolete Yamaha P60 keyboard that I purchased well 7 years ago and which, on many occasions, has literally 'saved' my life. In fact, living in an apartment building and having to adhere to certain hours and school study commitments, I have often been forced to abandon the piano in order to continue practicing on the digital piano.
Currently, however, I intend to purchase a new digital piano since my old keyboard has been 'massacred' quite a bit and, unfortunately and reluctantly, I am also considering selling my acoustic piano for several reasons, one of which is related to my university studies which are unfortunately not in my city, forcing me to be frequently separated from my piano and lacking another good support to continue studying effectively and enjoyably :-)
Therefore, I would currently like to be able to purchase a digital piano that is durable and efficient, not too 'complex' from a technological point of view and as close as possible to the natural—and I would say indispensable—mechanics of an acoustic piano. I have been proposed various models mainly from two famous manufacturers: Kawai and Yamaha. While for the latter I had the opportunity to personally try some models from the Clavinova and Arius series, for Kawai this was not possible since no retailer I contacted has one in stock. However, I have consulted several websites and seen numerous promotional videos on YouTube presenting all the mechanisms and technology present in each product. The retailer who suggested the Kawai told me that this digital piano has a particular 'action' and seems to be considered a 'niche' piano, sought after by classical pianists given its essential sound and the lack of many additional technological features that, instead, add to the cost of the Yamaha.
I am therefore curious to know your opinion regarding digital keyboards, the parameters with which I should judge their quality, and eventually a point of comparison between Kawai and Yamaha pianos. I would be very grateful if you could also suggest some specific models that I might consider.
Thank you for your attention!
Kind regards
Marmelodies
