Since I had to temporarily stop construction due to a Taskin cembalo that needs to be finished quickly, in my free time I started sketching the design for the decorative paper that will cover the exposed spruce sides; here is the reason why.

It's been a while since I updated the thread, mainly because there is no news, but I'll show you how the harpsichord is progressing, which should be delivered by the end of the month, at most early June; once this is finished, I will resume work on the clavichord, and there are also a couple of spinets to do, but they are instruments significantly smaller than a Taskin and therefore it will be possible to work simultaneously on a spinet and on the clavichord.

Small brief news, today I finally managed to understand the key coupling of my clavichord; to understand it, I had to take the drawing of another German clavichord, but one made significantly better, and by looking at the position of the tangents, it became immediately clear and the calculations now work out perfectly.

Aside from the first low octave which only features B-Bb coupled, the two octaves above have 10 coupled keys per octave: C-C#, D Eb-E, F-F#, G-G#, A Bb-B.

The last octave is coupled differently again: C-C#, D Eb-E, F-F#, G-G#, A-Bb, B-C.

This is to save 34 strings and make 60 in two courses instead of 94.

Now I have to calculate the diameters of the strings to be used; it will surely all be yellow brass, I might have to use red brass on the basses, but I will only find out by doing the calculations.

So, for now, today I recorded this; obviously the instrument is not finished yet, but these are the two 8', as for the 4' we are doing some small adjustments these days. The bar that regulates the key travel is not fixed yet, so doing trills and mordents is a bit of an undertaking; moreover, we discovered that the Taskin was certainly not strung at 392 but at 410-415 Hz, so the stringing is also still unstable having pulled it up by a semitone (at 392, as some of us were saying the Taskin should be, it cannot even be tuned).

but the harpsichord sound, if I'm not mistaken, I've already uploaded it somewhere! It has been working for a while, there are just some small details left to finish: the studs around the brass levers, checking the springs of the jacks (he is trying to convince himself to do it more than anything, he doesn't feel like it ahahah) and he needs to fix the design of the stop levers a bit, then I think there is nothing else to do... he put in the lute stop this week, the only nuisance is that it doesn't hold the 415 Hz tuning well; it tends to stabilize at 108-410 (which would technically be the original pitch according to the curator of the Russell Collection in Edinburgh, where the original is located) oh yes, there's still a piece left to glue, more than anything because he can never decide whether to glue it or screw it (he would want to screw it, I would glue it) but in the end I think I won him over, he should have glued it last night...

in short, the final details need to be fixed and more lacquer and the final wax applied.

New updates from the clavichord: today I resumed work on the keyboard, leveled and flattened it, then I traced 4 lines with a small saw (purely aesthetic; in truth we were in doubt because normally there are 2...4 on larger ones, but this one is small; we even hypothesized that they might be small ebony blocks, but from the color of the pattern it doesn't seem so) having done this, I tapered all the corners of the keys except for the external ones of the first and last with a scraper, one key at a time.

For tomorrow there are some pieces to glue and probably the whole keyboard needed to be cut, certainly the first and last key.
